A Guided Hiking Experience on the Kumano Kodo Iseji – Magose-toge Pass Trail

The Kumano Kodo Iseji Route weaves its way along the eastern side of the Kii Peninsula. Among these is the Magose-toge Pass Trail, known for its beautiful stone steps and ease of hiking, even for beginners. This hiking tour, accompanied by an English-speaking guide, will allow you to fully experience the history, culture, nature, and cuisine of the area.

On the day of the tour, we’ll meet in the parking lot of the Mie Prefectural Government Owase Branch Office and take a local bus to the trailhead of the Magose-toge Pass trailhead on the Kihoku Town side. As you walk along the Magose-toge Pass Trail with your English-speaking guide, we’ll learn about the history, faith, and lifestyle of the Kumano Kodo. Surrounded by forests of cedar and cypress trees, the pass trail is filled with the tranquility and beauty of nature, sunlight filtering through the branches, and moss-covered path.

After reaching the Magose pass(325m), we’ll continue on to the summit of Mount Tengura(522m), where we’ll have lunch. While enjoying a special bento box made with local ingredients, we’ll enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of Owase Bay, the city, the surrounding mountains, and even the distant Odai mountain range. This unified experience of food and scenery is sure to be an unforgettable one.

After descending the mountain, we’ll visit Iwayado, a stone statues protected by huge boulders, and Owase Shrine, known for its Yaya Festival. Experience the faith and festival culture of the local people, deepening your journey. Finally, we’ll return to the meeting point, where the tour comes to an end.

This is a valuable program that allows you to experience the region’s nature, culture, and cuisine all in one, and serves as a great opportunity to convey the appeal of the Kumano Kodo Iseji Route in English. Join us for a memorable and enriching experience.
