Kumano Kodo Center was established by Mie Prefecture on February 10th 2007 in commemoration of the sacred places and pilgrimage routes in the Kii Mountain Range.
It was registered as a World Heritage Site on July 7th 2004.

The building of Kumano Kodo Center is constructed with 6,549 local Owase Hinoki (cypress). These hinoki trees are from60 to 80 year old.
Owase area has a lot of rainfall and steep landforms. The land is not rich owing to erosion from rainfall。 Owase hinoki needs a long time to grow and its annual tree rings are very thick. On the other hand, the natural conditions of Owase make the trees stout and give them a beautiful and lustrous texture.
This building is made up of pillars, beams and walls which are composed by combined blocks of Owase hinoki.  Retaining the traditional Japanese decorous buildings, Kumano Kodo Center represents beauty and strength of the straight lines of the building.

On the theme ”People and Roads, here and beyond” Kumano Kodo Center is founded with the aim of revitalizing the neighboring areas by giving  information on Kumano Kodo and promoting interchange with locals .

Kumano Kodo Center has facilities for achieving its founding aim as follows.
